#023: Emigration: Finding yourself, loving the news and living in the moment

This week I share a great conversation I had with Mark Agnew. Mark's day job for the last 20 years has mostly been focused on advising and supporting politicians at the national and local level in the UK.  Most recently this was for the elected Mayor of Hackney and his Cabinet.

By night he is one of the co-hosts of the podcast 'Tomorrow's World Audit Time' an extremely long and fascinating show in which Mark and his friend Russ look back at the old BBC science series Tomorrow’s world to finally find out just how much we were lied to when we were all growing up.

What you’ll hear about:

  • The impact of moving from Ireland to the UK in the late 1980’s

  • Who would I be if I hadn’t left?

  • Carrying a burden

  • Imagining a completely different life, which stopped him living his life

  • Gaining a new perspective on the place you live

  • Realisation on who I wanted to be & what I wanted to mean to other people

  • People’s perception versus reality

  • Having a blank slate to fill in yourself

  • Going against the grain on career choice

  • Being honest with myself

  • Living in the moment

  • A love of the news

  • Authenticity in politics

  • Importance of giving feedback

  • Self-judgement
